New BMW 1 Series Coupe Review
When it was launched back in 2004, BMW only offered a five door 1 Series, more recently a three door variant was added and now an all new two door coupe has been added to the 1 Series range, a move that BMW hopes will introduce the brand to a new younger audience. Looking like a scaled down version of the 3 Series Coupe, the new 1 Series Coupe will certainly appeal to those who don't just want to keep up with the Jones', but want to leave them trailing in their wake.
Three models will be available at launch, the 120d is the entry model, whilst the 123d is fitted with the world's most powerful production four-cylinder diesel engine and for those who want a little bit more oomph, there is the petrol powered, three litre, twin turbocharged, light alloy and magnesium straight-six engine that was first fitted in the 3 Series Coupe. The 120d is available in ES, SE and M Sport derivatives, the 123d in SE and M Sport, whilst the 135i is only available in M Sport trim.
Sharing the same platform as its three and five door siblings, the 1 Series Coupe maintains BMW's tradition of near perfect fifty-fifty weight distribution even though it has the obvious addition of a boot, as a result the Coupe's handling is everything you would expect from a BMW, in fact the only downside for the 1 Series Coupe is the price, but with strong residuals expected even that blow may be softened to a great extent.
