New Citroen DS4 Review
The Citroen DS4 is the second model in the DS line after the distinctive Citroen DS3. In terms of style it's certainly influenced by the excellent DS3 and has been designed to combine elegant coupe-looks with compact dimensions.
The Citreon DS4 may look like a two-door coupe, but it does in fact have rear doors with hidden handles, adding to the coupe appearance in a similar fashion to the SEAT Leon. The DS4 is practical too with a 370-litre boot - more than a Volkswagen Golf.
This is crucial as the DS4 is Citroen's more stylish equivalent to the C4 and is a model designed to compete with premium hatchbacks. Citroen is boldly promising that the DS4 will deliver "a new at-the-wheel experience with unrivalled driving sensations and outstanding agile on-road handling." It certainly grips well at the front, but is spoiled by the fitting of 19-inch wheels that reduce feedback to the steering. It's better on 18-inch wheels.
The Citroen DS4 engine range has two HDi diesel and three petrols including a new 200bhp unit which delivers great performance. The two HDi diesels - an HDi 110 (also available as an e-HDi version with an engine stop /start system) and an HDi 160 - are both fitted with Citroen's Diesel Particulate Filter System.
With the stitched leather option the interior looks good, reflecting Citroen's premuim new look as in the DS3 and C5. The biggest feature is the large panoramic windscreen that extends backwards into the roofline - a feature that's become a trademark of Citroen models and makes for a very bright and airy cabin. Owners can also personalise the interior with a choice of five leather combinations, including two-tone options. Range-topping models are also equipped with high quality leather on the dashboard and door panels - complete with a Â?Bracelet' design on the seats, evoking the links of a watch strap.
