New Renault Twingo Review
The Twingo may be new to us here in the UK, but its predecessor was launched to the rest of the European market back in 1993. The original design could not be produced in a right hand drive version, a decision that Renault would go on to regret as it lost an estimated two hundred and odd thousand sales in the UK over the life of the first generation Twingo. This time around Renault have rectified their mistake and the new Twingo has been launched in the UK in the form of two sporty models, the Dynamique and the GT.
Although the original Twingo was aimed at the younger driver, sales proved that older buyers bought it as a second car, as a result the new Twingo shares little in common with the model it replaces and this time around it has all the attributes designed to attract a much younger driver.
Designed around the platform of the last generation Clio, the TwingoÂ?s proven chassis makes it a pleasure to drive, sharp, responsive handling gives the driver great feedback and as a result, a feeling of confidence that will take you back to the days of the Peugeot 205 Gti. The Twingo may be entering an already overcrowded marketplace, but blessed with its handling and styling, it should make an impact even if it is a case of better late than never.
Low emissions, great fuel economy and cheap insurance will all no doubt combine to ensure the success of the Twingo, its just a shame the UK has had to wait so long for it to reach our shores.
